Reimbursement Update: BREAKING NEWS
HR 1155 / S.1361 Included in the ACCESS Act
HR 1155/S.1361, a bill that will allow nonphysician practitioners to meet the CMS requirement for “direct physician supervision” is included in a Medicare extender package, titled the Advancing Chronic Care, Extenders, and Social Services (ACCESS) Act, which was passed yesterday by the U.S. Senate. The bill now goes back to the U.S. House of Representatives for passage and then to the President for his signature. The effective date for our bill is January 1, 2024.
Also included is the expanded coverage of systolic heart failure as an eligible diagnosis for intensive cardiac rehabilitation. CMS will need to issue an effective date for this coverage change before implementation.
To every member who has made phone calls, sent emails, visited offices in Washington, D.C. and in local Districts over the past number of years to promote this bill, you are to be applauded and thanked for your persistence and willingness to be involved in advocacy actions that ultimately give our patients better services.
